The GT20 in Lisula: much more than just a stop-off

Cycling through the heart of Balagne

On the road on the GT20

Cycling across Corsica means following one of the Mediterranean’s most iconic cycle routes. In Balagne, and more specifically in Lisula, the GT20 really comes into its own: a challenging route, contrasting landscapes and links to scenic loops leading inland. All the ingredients are there to enjoy the entire crossing to the full or simply explore a few stages.

The GT20, a benchmark route

The Grande Traversée de la Corse, known as the GT20 or Traversata Maìo, is the major cycle route that crosses Corsica from north to south. A benchmark for cycle tourists, it follows the rugged coastline of Cap Corse, heads inland through the Balagne region to the Gulf of Porto, before venturing into the Corsican hinterland to reach the cliffs of Bonifacio. With a total elevation gain of 10,047 metres and altitudes reaching up to 1,500 metres, the GT20 is more than just a route; it is a challenge that must be earned.

Balagne, a memorable stop

After the steep slopes of Cap Corse, the Balagne stage begins on the Agriate road at Bocca di Vezzu. The route passes through the villages of Pieve de l’Ostriconi, Tuani and Sant’Andria, before reaching the Pieve villages around Calvi, continuing on to Falasorma and the village of Galeria. The most stunning mountain passes await: San Colombanu, Salvi and Bocca di Marsulinu – all challenges that invite you to push yourself to the limit. With the sea on one side and the peaks of the Balagne mountains on the other, this stage of the GT20 is undoubtedly a picture-postcard scene that is as much a delight to behold as it is to experience intensely.
