West of Balagne

To the west of Balagne

On the other side of Balagne, the villages look out towards the mountains as much as they do towards the sea. Between Lumiu – Lumio –, Sant’Antoninu – Sant’Antonino – and Algaiola – Algajola –, the scenery changes with every glance: in Calvi, the ramparts of the Genoese citadel; in the plains, ancient olive groves; and along the coast, the rocky coves of the nature reserves.

The Citadel, the Maquis and the Mediterranean

The Mediterranean stretches out from the citadel of Calvi, across the waters of the Revellata, the shores of Spanu and the Scandola Nature Reserve. Further inland, the Bonifatu – Bonifato – forest and the Fangu Valley – Fango – reveal a wilder mountainous landscape, with their rivers, natural pools and rugged terrain. A region of contrasts, steeped in history, where villages, rock and nature continue to interact with the sea.
