In Lisula, the history of the Pieve di Sant’Anghjulu is closely related to that of L’Isula – L’Ile-Rousse. It takes its name from Mount Sant’Anghjulu – Saint Ange – a former strategic vantage point overlooking both the sea and the Balagne valleys, where the remains of buildings still stand as a testament to its past importance. From Curbara – Corbara – to Munticellu – Monticello—, via Pigna and Santa Reparata di Balagna, the villages share a common history with the town founded by Pasquale Paoli in the 18th century. In 1826, Curbara, Munticellu and Santa Reparata ceded part of their land to allow for the town’s expansion. Today, convents, churches, historic houses, craft workshops and venues for musical creation tell the story of a region where historical heritage and cultural life remain closely intertwined.
