Ghjunsani – Giussani, situated at the foot of Monte Padru and within the Corsican Regional Nature Park, is known as the Haute Balagne. This valley comprises four villages and offers a peaceful retreat far from the hustle and bustle of towns and the coast: Pioggiula – Pioggiola –, Vallica, Musuleo – Mausoleo – and Olmi-Cappella.
The paths through the countryside, in the shade of the Lariccio pines of the Tartagine forest, offer a chance to recharge whilst exploring the built heritage: Genoese bridges, pagliaghji – landing stages – and aghje – threshing floors – evoking the area’s agricultural history, which is being revived today by the producers and craftspeople based in the villages. Every summer, the Ghjunsani becomes an open-air theatre during the International Theatre Festival, a true breath of fresh cultural air initiated by Robin Renucci almost 30 years ago.
