The markets

Strolling through a market in Balagne means getting into the rhythm of the farmers and craftspeople from the early hours of the morning. In the village squares and beneath the market halls of L’Isula – L’Ile-Rousse – the stalls are set up, coffee steams on the terraces and local life comes to life. Sun-kissed vegetables, mature cheeses, traditional cured meats or maquis honey: people come here to fill their baskets, but above all to chat, sample and take the time to savour these simple pleasures

From L’Isulato the villages of the hinterland, every market has its own character and traditions. Here, local producers sell the fruits of their labour directly; there, the aisles are a mix of crafts, textiles and everyday treasures. Wandering amongst the stalls at a craft fair, a flea market or a Christmas market in Lisula is to treat yourself to a lively, gourmet interlude, in tune with the seasons and those who shape the region.
