 The Balagne Fairs

Encounters with traditional skills

Every village has its own fair

From spring to autumn, the villages of Balagne come alive with the buzz of fairs where crafts, local produce and the art of living take centre stage. Each fair has its own unique atmosphere: from demonstrations of traditional crafts to tastings and moments of shared enjoyment, these events offer a chance to immerse yourself in the region and enjoy special encounters with its people.

1. Fiera di Santa Restituta Calenzana

Late May

Held around the chapel of Sainte-Restitude, patron saint of Balagne, this fair combines spiritual fervour with a lively public celebration. Farmers, craftspeople, designers and fairground attractions take over the fairground, whilst processions, concerts and demonstrations provide the backdrop to the weekend. A warm and welcoming event where the heritage and craftsmanship of Balagne and beyond come together in a friendly atmosphere.

2. Bread Fair Lumiu

Mid-June

A symbol of sharing, bread plays a fundamental role in the island’s traditions. In Lumio, this fair celebrates traditional and local flours, wood-fired baking and the expert skills of the bakers. Demonstrations, tastings and a craft market invite visitors to rediscover this vibrant and delicious heritage.

3. Fiera di l'Alivu Montegrossu

Mid-July

The olive tree, the king of the Balanin landscape, takes centre stage at this event held in Montegrossu. Exceptional olive oils, olive-based products, talks, and pruning and pressing workshops are combined with a market featuring craftspeople and local producers. It is an ideal opportunity to gain an insight into olive cultivation and the passion of those who keep the tradition alive.

4. Fiera di l'Amandulu Aregno

Early August

Originally conceived to celebrate the almond tree, the valley’s iconic tree, this fair has established itself as one of the key events in rural life in Balagne. Whilst the almond still takes pride of place, the event now showcases the region’s full range of skills and produce. Culinary demonstrations centred on almond cultivation, talks, workshops and concerts bring these three days of festivities to life.

5. The Fire Fair Costa

Mid-August

In Costa, A Fiera di u Focu showcases mastery of the arts of fire through demonstrations of blacksmithing, woodturning and raku pottery. Throughout the weekend, numerous craftspeople showcase their creations in the village’s narrow streets, which come alive with heritage tours, literary events, family workshops and evening concerts. A warm, intimate event where creativity, culture and a friendly atmosphere come together.

6. L’Isula Fair L'Ile-Rousse

Early October

Founded in the 19th century, A Fiera di L’Isula remains Corsica’s oldest fair. Historically dedicated to trade between livestock farmers, farmers and craftspeople, it remains a highlight of life in Balagne and Île-Rousse. Producers, designers and craftspeople take to Place Paoli in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A Fiera di L’Isula brings the Balagne fair season to a close with music and thrills, featuring fairground rides for children of all ages.
