Ostriconi Beach

L’Ostriconi Beach

About fifteen kilometres from L’Isula – L’Ile-Rousse – Ostriconi Beach marks the entrance to the Agriate. Accessible only on foot, it lies at the endof a path through the maquis and the Canale rose garden. An immersive experience of nature where the landscape is as much to be experienced as it is to be admired.

Getting there

A beach you have to work for

Heading to Ostriconi Beach is like stepping into a world of its own. Here, the surf and white sand come into view at the end of the path, which first winds through the scrubland, then runs alongside the wetlands, before finally crossing the wooden footbridge that spans the river’s mouth. Gradually, the landscape takes on a different hue.

The beach then comes into view, wide and bright, with its pale dunes and 800 metres of pristine, fine sand. The only signs of human intervention are the lifeguard stations set up during the summer. The rest of the time, the only company you keep there is yourself, the sea, the wind and the open space; a rare sensation of being far away.

At the gateway to Agriate

The sea here is clear, but rarely calm. Exposed to westerly and north-westerly winds, the atmosphere on the beach changes depending on the conditions. In calm weather, a swim in this exotic setting is a truly relaxing and enjoyable experience. When the wind picks up, the waves become powerful and attract the most keen board sports enthusiasts. At such times, swimming becomes more of a challenge.

At the far end of the beach, the landscape stretches towards Agriate. The long stretch of sand then gives way to rocks interspersed with the coastal path leading to Saint-Florent – a trek taking at least three days, passing through sheltered coves, ‘pagliaghji’ (straw huts), and the unspoilt beaches of Saleccia and Lotu, popular in summer with boaters and curious visitors.
