A leading figure in the world of outdoor sports in Corsica: an experienced athlete, GR20 expert and professional guide with Cime di Corsica, Ange Riu shares his passion for the trails of Lisula, nestled between the sea and the mountains.
From a very young age, I took part in sports and leisure activities linked to nature and the mountains, thanks to my parents. My passion for outdoor sports naturally developed into a love of trail running and mountain biking. These activities became an integral part of my daily life as an adult because they combine everything I love: physical exertion and the joy of being out in the great outdoors.
Lisula is a unique sporting destination because it boasts a highly varied and diverse landscape, stretching from the coast to the peaks of Ghjunsani – Giussani at over 2,000 metres above sea level. The area in between is criss-crossed by numerous trails, allowing visitors to explore the villages of Lisula and Balagne, which boast exceptional views and a rich architectural heritage. Its certified activity sites allow sports enthusiasts and nature lovers to enjoy peaceful walks along marked and well-maintained circular routes of varying difficulty levels.
I’d say it’s not just one activity but a range of sporting activities that best sum up Lisula’s outdoor scene, notably trail running, mountain biking and hiking, not to mention Nordic walking. It’s a leading destination in Corsica for sports enthusiasts thanks to the quality, diversity and sheer number of routes on offer in these disciplines. The flawless organisation and enthusiasm for sporting events such as the French Mountain Bike Enduro Championship and the Trail A Petralbinca in Pietralba also demonstrate the Lisula region’s determination to establish itself as a competitive venue.
I’d really recommend coming to explore Lisula, as this area offers activities for all levels in an exceptional setting, with a real sense of authenticity throughout the villages.

A balance will need to be struck between those who enjoyoutdoor activities and those who work in these areas, such as livestock farmers, so that everyone can go about their business in a positive spirit. Preserving the natural environment is essential. Best practices, which include respect for flora and fauna, must be taught in schools, by community organisations and through codes of conduct.
