E Spelonche
The history of modern-day Palasca dates back to the late 11th century and the presence of the Marquises of Massa, who settled in the area around the fortress of San Colombanu. In the village, the Church of Santa MariaAssunta and its bell tower overlook a cluster of closely packed houses.
Further down, towards the L’Osari plain, E Spelonche bears witness to another period in the settlement of the area. This ancient village was gradually abandoned during the 16th century, against a backdrop marked in particular by Barbary pirate raids. Stone walls, terraces and ancient paths remain visible and can be explored on foot today. The route connects the present-day village with these former inhabited and cultivated lands.
