Olmi-Cappella

Between two villages and a thousand stories

Olmi Cappella

Born from the union of the hamletsof Olmi and Cappella, Olmi-Cappella stretches out at the foot of the Ghjunsani -Giussani mountains. Here, one enters a more secluded part of the Balagne, where the landscape still echoes with the whispers of ancient tales, whilst the village continues to foster a culture centred on creativity, community and traditional skills.

Getting there

A step back in time

In the vicinity of Olmi-Cappella, at a place known as l’Uscita, megaliths, dolmens, enclosures and traces of settlement serve as a reminder that the area has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. Further on, at Castellu di Mori – the ‘Castle of the Moors’ – tales of buried treasure still capture the imagination of the locals. Through a blend of history, archaeology and oral traditions, the village remains a living testament to its past.

Places to live

Set amidst the hills of the Ghjunsani, theCasa Battaglini immediately catches the eye with its monumental architecture, which is somewhat unexpected in this mountainous landscape. The building, constructed in the late 19th century thanks to the patron Noël Battaglini – a native of the village who had settled in Egypt – was the first secondary school in Balagne. Today, it remains a meeting place for locals, schoolchildren and the manyARIA trainees during the Rencontres Internationales de Théâtre en Corse.

Further on, A Casa di i Produttori – the producers’ house – builds on this momentum by showcasing local produce: essential oils, honey, chestnut-based products, handcrafted items and the traditional skills of the ‘ Ghjunsani ’.

Along the paths

From Olmi-Cappella, the old mule tracks form a link between the villages, whilst the trails of the Corsican Regional Nature Park invite you to immerse yourself in the depths of the Tartagine–Melaghja forest. From panoramic mountain passes to the Francione Gorges, beneath the sheltering canopy of chestnut trees, this vast playground offers trail runners, Nordic walkers and cyclists a unique setting, in harmony with unspoilt nature.
