Vallica

In Vallica, the mountains both close off the horizon and open up new paths. Nestled between the Tartagine Valley, Monte Padru and the Popolasca peaks, the village lives in harmony with the raw forces of nature that shape both the landscape and local life.

Getting there

A landscape with challenging terrain

Vallica stretches towards theTartagine Valley, designated a Natura 2000 site for its holm oak forests and junipers. From the village, a walking trail winds its way into this unspoilt area, home to mouflons, Corsican red deer and birds of prey.

The Alzone circular walk heads into the mountains, whilst the Fiuminale mountain bike trail winds down through ravines to the Bocca a Croce pass. Towering over the landscape, Monte Padru, at an altitude of 2,390 metres, dominates the scenery and serves as a reminder of the challenging nature of this inland mountain range.

Religious heritage

The Church of the Nativity houses one of the most unique pieces of heritage in Ghjunsani : an 18th-century organ, listed as a Historic Monument and recently restored thanks to a major campaign led by the Fondation du Patrimoine. Today, this instrument comes to life again during concerts organised by the Renaissance de l’Orgue Corse association and the Cimbalata festival, which, every August, fill the air with Baroque music , hymns and contemporary compositions.

The village’s religious and cultural life revolves around the San Parteud’Olmi-Cappella brotherhood, particularly during the celebrations of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and All Saints’ Day.
