Description
Delve into the history of Corsica with Jean-Pierre Poli! A lecture on the hopes that Corsican patriots placed in France and the disillusionment of the communities of Balagne during the Corsican Revolution.
Lecture by Jean-Pierre Poli—The French Hopes of Corsican Patriots in Balagne (1737–1774).
The Avortica Association, the Association for Historical and Genealogical Studies of Munticellu, invites you to a lecture by Jean-Pierre Poli, author of *1769–1789: Twenty Years of Resistance in Corsica*, published by Alain Piazzola.
Beginning in 1737, several representatives of the Balagne communities, including Abbé Gregorio Salvini, hoped that the King of France would become the protector of Corsican liberties. This sentiment grew stronger during the mission of the Marquis de Cursay (1749–1752), only to give way to disillusionment following the Treaty of Versailles on May 15, 1768, and the defeat at Ponte Novu.
A discussion to better understand the hopes, political choices, and upheavals that shaped Corsica in the 18th century.
Refreshments will be served following the lecture
