Classification of furnished accommodation

Having your holiday let classified allows you to have its standard of comfort and services recognised by an increasingly discerning clientele, in accordance with a national rating system ranging from 1 to 5 stars. The process is voluntary for owners, and the classification remains valid for 5 years. In Lisula, the L’Ile-Rousse Balagne Tourist Office is authorised to carry out classification inspections within its area of jurisdiction and supports owners at every stage of the process.

A reassuring point of reference

The classification serves as a recognised benchmark for travellers and helps to better describe the accommodation. It may also provide access to certain benefits, notably membership of the Agence Nationale pour les Chèques-Vacances and, depending on the owner’s circumstances, specific tax arrangements. The application for classification is independent of any commercial partnership with the Tourist Office.

The approach

The process begins with registering the furnished accommodation and obtaining a valid registration number. Once the complete application has been received, the Tourist Office arranges an on-site inspection. The 133 criteria in the assessment framework cover three main areas: facilities and fittings, services offered to guests, and accessibility and sustainability. Prior to the inspection, a discussion with the classification officer also provides an opportunity to review the property and the proposed star rating.

The visit

On the day of the inspection, the furnished accommodation must be presented in the same condition as when showing it to prospective tenants, with all the facilities required for the relevant category.

The inspection usually lasts between 1 hour and 2 hours 30 minutes. Once it is complete, the Tourist Office forwards the file to the Corsica Tourism Agency, which issues the classification order following approval.
