Residency Showcase: Diaoulería
Following their residency at CNCM Voce, Camille Heim and Mael Lhopiteau present “Diaoulería,” a quartet piece born from the collaboration of two harpists with backgrounds in traditional dance music. Drawing on their respective musical worlds and their shared desire to reinvent the image of the Celtic harp, the project explores the possibilities offered by the electrification of sound, effects, rhythmic interplay, and new instrumental textures.
Inspired by the dances of Brittany, “Diaoulería” draws on traditional repertoires, singing, and the kan ha diskan while embracing other musical influences, particularly those from Latin America. The voices of the four artists play a central role in this production, where polyphony, rhythms, and improvisation blend with the two harps to create music that is rich, inventive, and resolutely dance-oriented.
