Join local guide Romain Martelli on a journey to discover Costa and its timeless landscapes. From hiking trails and well-preserved heritage sites to tasting Corsican specialties at A Cantina di a Costa, experience an authentic immersion in the Balagne region.
A native of Balagne, Romain Martelli guides you along the trails he’s known since childhood, helping you discover the authentic side of Corsica—from its natural beauty to its villages and cultural heritage. Passionate about his homeland, he shares, in a down-to-earth way, the history of these places, local traditions, and the landscapes that shape the region. In small groups and at a pace suitable for everyone, each hike is designed as a vivid immersion into the heart of the island.
This 3-hour hike invites you to explore the little-known treasures of Costa, the smallest village in Balagne. Starting from the village, you’ll follow little-used ancient shepherds’ trails and cross the historic agricultural plains of Balagne to the outskirts of San Bastianu. Over a distance of about 5 km with 200 m of elevation gain, these ancestral landscapes—where Mediterranean vegetation has gradually reclaimed its place—bear witness to a rural past that is still very much alive.
Halfway through the hike, a gourmet break is a must at A Cantina di a Costa, the village’s iconic grocery store. Cold cuts, aged cheeses, and local wines offer a true immersion in the flavors of the Corsican countryside.
The second half of the route immerses you in a remarkably well-preserved natural and architectural heritage. Cobbled alleys, dry-stone structures, and remnants of a bygone era tell the story of Costa and its inhabitants, making for a day that blends discovery, nature, and traditions.
